Ladies getting conned by mechanics.

Not all. But most mechanics will take advantage irrespective of the gender, if you are a complete novice & have very limited knowledge about car & automotive parts.Ladies! You don't need to call your husband anymore to seek assistance in fixing your car which has broken down abruptly... Read on to find out…

In today’s world of aggressive marketing where the sales force is trained in milking the customers as well as skimming the pricing of the product/services on offer, people are skeptical while making buying decisions. Normally a customer is apprehensive in closing deals for services or products which are not conventionally known to be their forte i.e for those services or products whose features, details they are not very well conversant with. Car repair/service or car buying is one such striking example. Whether it is buying a car or getting a car repaired/serviced; women, especially, are generally cynical as they are scared that if they personally deal with the car dealer or mechanic they could be charged an inappropriately exorbitant amounts. The car dealers, car salesmen or car mechanics normally use some jargons or mechanical terms related to the car parts & it’s working mechanism which a common citizen is normally ill aware of. It is difficult to understand the intricacies of the complex mechanism which the car mechanic is floating, because of which their car or car AC is not functioning properly. Hence women either just settle the bill as required by the car mechanic/salesman or have to depend on a male member in their family/friends to get the car repaired/ help them to buy a car.

Being a woman, if your car has suddenly broken down when you are driving to office or when you have ventured out on a weekend, getting panic stricken will not solve the situation. Neither will frantically calling some male family member/ colleague help you to own the situation now and it will not prep you up for the future. Whether you are skeptical, not comfortable with talking to car salesmen or car mechanics or simply your schedule does not allow you the bandwidth and the time to personally supervise the car repair/car-service needed by your car, you will not learn how to deal with these situations unless you take the initiative yourself.

It is important to understand that you will be able to master such situations only if you spend some time being in that situation, personally. You don’t have to be an absolute mechanic yourself, rather you need to just expose yourself to such situations and face them confidently. You need to ask the right questions, which will only come after experience and exposure to such scenarios. Familiarity with technical terms and automobile-jargons will come with exposure, experience & the mental readiness to deal with car breakdowns/punctures, car AC not working etc kind of situations personally.
